How does Adapalene work?

  • It may work by normalizing skin cell turnover just by binding RAR- β and RAR- γ receptors in hair follicles. This may stop skin cells from sticking together and clogging pores just by preventing growth of new blackheads and whiteheads.
  • Loosens and clears existing microcomedones over 8-12 weeks.
  • This may block neutrophil activity receptor 2 and AP-1 pathways may reduce red, swollen pimples and prevent post-acne marks.
  • It may work on pores, not on bacteria so it doesn’t kill acnes bacteria.

 Safety & Efficacy

  • According to safety concerns, it may have some side effects like dryness, burning, stinging, redness, itching. This side effects may can vary from person to person so consult your Dermat prior.
  • It can be used in treating acne vulgaris.

 Precautions

  • Start using Adapalene by pea-sized amount i.e., 2-3 nights per week.
  • After using Adapalene skin becomes more UV sensitive so use SPF-30+ daily.
  • Avoid it from sensitive areas like eyes, nose, lip, and mucous membrane.
  • Apply gently non-comedogenic moisturizer to reduce dryness.
  • If you feel swelling or irritation after applying then consult your dermat.
