Androgenic alopecia (AGA) is known to be as Male pattern baldness/ Female pattern hair loss. This is most common form of progressive hair loss worldwide. Not a disease, but a genetic and hormonal condition affecting hair follicles.
Dutasteride is 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor, which is anti-androgenic and is used for dealing with hair loss issues like Androgenic alopecia in male and also in dealing with Benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Dutasteride may include Dutanol 0.5 mg, Dutas 0.5 mg, Dutagen capsule, Avosteride 0.5 mg, Dutas T capsules and Dutaheal 0.5 mg.
Dutasteride work by:
- It may inhibit both Type I and Type II 5-alpha-reductase isoenzymes.
- It may reduce serum DHT by approx. 95% and scalp DHT by more than 90%.
- Less DHT attacking follicles go through miniaturization slows and then stops but in the case of some dormant follicle’s re-enter growth phase this may increase hair count and thickness.

- According to safety considerations should consult Dermat or medical specialist if you face any of the side effects like dizziness, depression, testicular pain, breast tenderness enlargement or gynecomastia.
- Dutasteride is used in dealing with androgenic alopecia and promoting hair growth.

Precautions
- If you are with prior thyroid condition, iron deficiency, lupus, telogen effluvium, then avoid taking such medications.
- If while using dutasteride medications if you feel hair loss then stop using it.
- Do not use finasteride and dutasteride together, this can lead to side effects.
- Do not use it on irritated scalp as it may worsen the situation.
