Semaglyn Injection is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics the natural hormone involved in blood sugar regulation. It increases insulin secretion and reduces glucagon release and also delays gastric emptying. It decreases appetite and food intake. 

Directions for use

  • Administer the injection once a week on the same day every week.
  • The site of administration can be abdomen, front of the thighs or upper arm.
  • Ensure the needle is inserted strictly into the fat layer and not veins or muscle.

Missed dose

In case if you miss the prescribed dose it can lead to increased blood sugar levels and can increase the risk of getting other health complications. If you miss a dose, take the dose as soon as you remember. If it’s already time for the next dose, skip the dose.

Interactions

  • Oral medications

Semaglutide delays stomach emptying. This alters the absorption of medications including thyroid medications, oral contraceptives, diuretics, blood pressure medications and pain relievers. 

  • Herbal supplements

Herbal supplements like gymnema, bitter melon or fenugreek if taken with Semaglutide can cause blood sugar to drop too drastically. 

  • Antibiotics and antimalarial drugs

Certain antibiotics and antimalarial drugs like clarithromycin, hydroxychloroquine can compound stomach side effects or alter blood sugar. 

Precautions & Warnings

  • Do not use this medication if you or your family has a history of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma(MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2. 
  • Do not use the medication if you are allergic to Semaglutide or any other ingredient of the injection. 
  • Never share needles or injection pens with anyone even if the needle is changed.
  • Do not inject the injection in muscles or veins. 
  • Discard the solution if it is cloudy or discolored. 
  • Store unopened injections in the refrigerator but do not freeze.

  • Semaglutide should not be combined with insulin as a mixture for injection.
