How does Rybelsus 3 mg work?

Rybelsus 3 mg consists of Semaglutide which is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. GLP-1 is released in the body after eating to help regulate appetite and blood sugar levels. It slows down digestion so that the food stays in the stomach a little longer. It decreases appetite and food intake. 

Directions for use

Always take this medicine as prescribed by the healthcare provider. Below are some tips for better absorption:

  • Take the tablet on an empty stomach after a fasting period of at least 8 hours. 
  • Swallow the tablet whole. 
  • Do not split, crush or chew the tablet. 
  • Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything other than water. 

Dosage

The starting dose is 3 mg once a day for one month. After one month, your healthcare provider might increase the dose to 7 mg tablets once a day.

  • Medications like chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine can also increase the risk of hypoglycaemia if combined with Semaglutide. 
  • Drugs like furosemide can increase the risk of dehydration.
  • Concomitant use of Semaglutide and Levothyroxine can reduce the absorption of thyroid medications.

Precautions & Warnings

  • Acute or chronic kidney damage can take place. Use with caution. 
  • Semaglutide has a warning for the risk of thyroid C-cell tumours. It should not be used in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). 
  • Avoid semaglutide if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Delayed gastric emptying can alter the absorption of oral medications taken concurrently. 
  • Severe vomiting or diarrhea can lead to dehydration, be caution. 
  • It can cause eye problems especially if you have a condition called diabetic retinopathy. 
  • Do not use the tablet if you are allergic to Semaglutide or any other ingredient of the tablet. 
  • Avoid fatty, greasy, fried and heavily spiced foods as well as sugary items as it can trigger or worsen stomach upset. 
  • Avoid alcohol.
